Talamanca Indian Reserve & Waterfall

Traditions full of cocoa flavor

After picking you up at your hotel we will go toward the Bribri Reserve, the biggest indigenous community in the country and also Talamanca´s headboard, where we will begin our visit to the different indigenous communities of Volio, Watsi, and Santa Fe.



Our journey begins visiting the Awa, or the Bribri´s doctor, who will invite us into his traditional ranch. The Awa and his family will introduce us to some of their traditions and their history through the drawings on a fabric.



Then we will walk with the Awa to a sacred place in the forest, where they built a replica of a site in the high Talamanca, where they believe God created the Bibris and the other humans. The Awa will explain their beliefs about Creation. On the way to this sacred site we will stop on a place where they will show us the corn grinding process. We will have the chance to see indigenous handcrafts before continuing with our journey. We will take the public bus, in order to get a closer look to the Bribri people reality.



Our journey continues with a visit to an indigenous family, where 5 generations live together under the same roof. This will be a real close contact with this people life style. You will get to know their houses, cooking, medicinal plants, chocolate production, and many other aspects about their lives. You will taste cocoa with different aromas and flavors, and then you will enjoy a local typical meal. You will have the opportunity of grinding your own chocolate and get to know all the secrets about this old process.



Then, we will move toward one of the most spectacular waterfalls in the area: The Volio Waterfall, considered the tallest waterfall in the area due to its 35 meters high. After freshen up in its pools, we will begin our way back to our respective hotels.
